Free Carbon Literacy Training for UK Sports Clubs

Introduction to free carbon literacy training courses

In a remarkable collaboration between BASIS and Sport England, the UK sports sector is on the brink of a sustainability revolution. The announcement of free Carbon Literacy Training courses for the UK Sports Sector in 2024 marks a significant leap toward fostering a more environmentally conscious and eco-friendly sports community.

Unveiling the Training Program

In-Person Sessions in the Northwest & Northeast

The journey begins with two immersive in-person training days on Wednesday, 17th, and Thursday, 18th January, in the Northwest & Northeast regions. These hands-on experiences are crafted to engage participants in a transformative learning environment.

Nationwide Reach

Expanding its impact, BASIS plans six more in-person training days across the Midlands, London/South East, East Anglia, and the Southwest throughout February and March 2024. This nationwide approach ensures accessibility for a broader spectrum of the sports sector.

The Essence of Carbon Literacy

Free Educational Opportunity

The courses are a gift to the UK sports sector, available on a first-come, first-served basis for up to 24 people, with a maximum of 3 attendees per organization. This commitment to democratizing knowledge underscores the dedication to widespread environmental education.

Carbon Literacy Sports Kit

Participants will benefit from the Carbon Literacy Sports Kit, a comprehensive training tool tailored for the sports sector. It aims to raise awareness of greenhouse gas emissions, their role in climate change, and practical measures that can be taken.

Five Modules for Holistic Learning

  1. Climate Change Basics: Understanding the science, evidence, and impacts.

  2. Equity and Vulnerability: Exploring issues around equity, local impacts, and effects on sports.

  3. Co-Benefits of Climate Action: Understanding policy positions and the influence of the sports sector.

  4. Carbon Footprints: Assessing individual and organizational carbon footprints.

  5. Taking Action: Learning why action is crucial, effective communication about climate change, and developing carbon pledges.

A Greener Tomorrow: Conclusion

As we embark on this collective journey towards carbon literacy, BASIS reaffirms its commitment to delivering a positive impact on sport at every level. Join the movement, empower yourself with knowledge, and be a driving force for change in the UK sports industry.

Taking the First Step: Measuring Carbon Footprint

Adding a crucial layer to the initiative, sporting clubs need to measure their carbon footprint. Understanding scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions is critical. Newgate Trading can provide carbon footprint measurements to clubs, allowing them to pay for the service with tickets to games, sponsorship, advertising, or corporate hospitality instead of cash. It's smarter to barter! For more information contact adam@newgatetrading.co.uk
